“The history books helped me understand my grandmother’s story, and my grandmother’s story helped me understand the history books.”

WE SHARE THE SAME SKY

WE SHARE THE SAME SKY is Rachael’s flagship project that tells the story of her decade-long journey to retrace her grandmother’s wartime history. It all started in 2009 when Rachael was in college and asked her grandmother to share her story; Hana was the only Holocaust survivor in her family and was saved by strangers. Their time talking about her past, along with the extensive archive she left behind after her death, led Rachael across Europe and the United States to explore how memories are passed from one generation to the next. This story has been told as an award-winning narrative podcast and memoir, and adapted for multiple exhibitions. It is paired with classrom-ready curriculums and used by teachers worldwide.
